Scaling Product Data for Saudi Arabia's Largest Pharmacy-led Retailer

Nahdi Medical Company is Saudi Arabia’s largest pharmacy-led retailer, with over 1,150 pharmacies in more than 140 cities and towns across the Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates. Founded in 1986 and headquartered in Jeddah, Nahdi has grown into a major player in the retail pharmacy sector.

The company employs over 10,000 staff and offers a wide range of products, including pharmaceuticals, health and wellness items, beauty products, and medical equipment. Nahdi also operates NahdiCare polyclinics, telemedicine platforms, and home healthcare services. In 2022, Nahdi was listed on the Saudi Exchange (Tadawul).

Nahdi operates several digital sales channels, including its Adobe-Commerce-based e-commerce website and Nahdi Online mobile app, which offer product browsing, e-prescriptions, home delivery, and click-and-collect. The Nuhdeek loyalty program connects online and in-store purchases, while real-time inventory and order management ensure seamless omnichannel fulfillment.

Scaling Product Data for Saudi Arabia's Largest Pharmacy-led Retailer

Challenges

Nahdi faced several key challenges in managing and optimizing their growing and complex product data ecosystem:

  • Outdated PIM System: Nahdi’s legacy PIM lacked the features required for modern operations. It was difficult to scale and maintain, and duplicate product versions for different regions caused inconsistent and redundant data.

  • Inefficient Product Onboarding: Product data management was split between internal teams and vendors, but the process was fragmented. Roles were unclear, and the workflow lacked visibility and control.

  • Manual Multilingual Management: Translating thousands of SKUs from English to Arabic was slow and error-prone. Without automation, updates had to be re-entered manually, delaying product publication and reducing consistency.

  • Limited E-Commerce Integration: Synchronizing large volumes of product data with Adobe Commerce in real time was difficult. Managing multiple websites and localized content required a more reliable and scalable integration framework.

Goals

To address these challenges, Nahdi set out to:

  • Implement a Scalable PIM Solution: Deploy AtroPIM as a flexible and secure platform that centralizes all product data and supports multilingual content.

  • Streamline Product Onboarding: Improve collaboration between vendors and internal teams through structured workflows, role-based permissions, and bulk data management tools.

  • Automate Data Synchronization with Adobe Commerce: Transfer only verified and approved product data to Adobe Commerce in near real time to keep the online store accurate and current.

  • Introduce Automated Translation Workflows: Automate English-to-Arabic translation using translation memory and glossary tools to reduce manual work and maintain consistent terminology.

  • Enhance Product Data Quality and Enrichment: Remove duplicate entries, apply role-based approvals, and add product attributes to improve filtering, discovery, and catalog accuracy.

Solution

To meet these objectives, Nahdi implemented a modern Product Information Management (PIM) system, AtroPIM, customized for flexibility, scalability, multilingual support, and secure data management.

Key solution features included:

  • Customized Data Model: AtroPIM was configured to manage Nahdi’s large product catalog with multilingual content, technical specifications, localized attributes, and media files for thousands of SKUs.

  • Workflow Management: A flexible workflow engine allowed internal teams and vendors to work in parallel. Role-based permissions defined responsibilities for product creation, review, approval, and enrichment.

  • Automated Data Synchronization with Adobe Commerce: Verified and approved product data is automatically synchronized with Adobe Commerce. This ensures catalog accuracy, reduces server load, and supports multiple regional websites.

  • Vendor Onboarding: Vendors upload product data through Excel feeds that import directly into AtroPIM. This speeds up onboarding, supports bulk updates, and maintains data consistency.

  • Automated Translation: Built-in translation memory and glossary tools manage English-to-Arabic translations. They speed up localization and ensure consistent terminology across all product data.

  • Automated Content Generation: Product text blocks, technical highlights, and visuals are generated automatically from structured data using predefined templates. This saves time and keeps content consistent.

  • Future-Ready Architecture: The system is prepared for future integration with ERP software and online marketplaces to support further automation.

Results

  • Centralized Data Platform: Nahdi now manages all product information in one system that serves as the single source of truth for both English and Arabic websites. Centralized data improves consistency, eliminates duplication, and supports precise localization.

  • Streamlined Product Onboarding: Structured workflows and bulk import/export tools help vendors and internal teams work efficiently. The new process reduces manual effort and speeds up the release of new products.

  • Automated Translation Workflows: Translation memory and glossary tools automate English-to-Arabic translations. They deliver accurate, consistent, and brand-aligned content while reducing manual input.

  • Enhanced Product Data Quality: The system removes duplicates, applies role-based approvals, and uses automated validation to maintain accurate and complete product data across all SKUs.

  • Seamless Data Synchronization with Adobe Commerce: Product data, including localized attributes and structured content, is synchronized automatically with the e-commerce platform. This ensures the online store always displays verified and current information.

  • Scalable and Future-Ready Architecture: The new PIM system supports continued business growth, new digital initiatives, and future automation of product data syndication and enrichment.
